San Miguel market

Description

San Miguel market

Imagine a place where you can do your daily shopping, stroll around, have a drink or give yourself a treat by savouring some oysters accompanied by French champagne. That place is the San Miguel market, located in the square of the same name, very near the Plaza Mayor and in the heart of Madrid's sightseeing area. This traditional market –the only one built of iron to have survived– has being given a modern touch, and is now packed with stalls offering exquisite gourmet produce. Everything from 'fuet' (Catalan sausage) and cured ham, through to various types of hamburgers, specialities such as potato omelette, fresh pasta, fish and shellfish, juices, sushi, organic produce, wine and frozen yoghurt. In addition to the stalls it also has wine bars, bars where you can sample 'tapas', specialist shops and a gastronomic bookshop. This foodie paradise has long opening hours which makes it the perfect place to enjoy both day and night.
