Sierras de Béjar y Francia Biosphere Reserve

Less than one hour outside the city of Salamanca, it is well worth visiting this nature area and its leafy forest. You'll love the strawberry tree forest in Miranda del Castañar (among the oldest and most extensive in Spain). Another place not to be missed: the viewing point at Peña de Francia ridge, with a height of almost 1,800 metres. What animals can you find there? This is an important area for species like the Iberian lynx, the black stork and the black vulture. Although there are also other interesting species such as Schreiber's green lizard or the Iberian newt. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? There are four interesting routes through the Las Batuecas-Sierra de Francia nature reserve that conceal works of art along the way, such as mermaids, enormous cages… They are called: the 'Water route', 'Roots route', 'Route of the Asentadero-Forest of Mirrors' and 'Route of the Prodigies'. You can also do cycle tourism or skiing in the nearby resort of La Covatilla.
