Muniellos Biosphere Reserve

In the heart of Asturias you'll find this mountainous landscape with the largest oak forest on the Iberian peninsula, and among of the best conserved in Europe. One of the most interesting itineraries you can do will take you to the lakes at the Pico de la Candanosa, whose glacial origin goes back thousands of years. What animals can you find there? The most representative species is the brown bear, although there are also wolves (with stable breeding areas), roe deer, chamois and capercaillie. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? This nature area is home to charming villages such as Ibias, DegaƱa and Cangas de Narcea (and its Corias Monastery). Remember that visits to Muniellos forests are restricted so you'll need to request authorisation before going.
