Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve

One hour by car outside Madrid you'll find five charming municipalities that are all part of this Biosphere Reserve: La Hiruela, Horcajuelo de la Sierra, Montejo de la Sierra, Prádena del Rincón and Puebla de la Sierra. Among the most famous sights in this area is the Hayedo de Montejo beech forest, one of the southernmost of its kind in Europe. We highly recommend visiting in autumn (when its multitude of colours can be seen in all their glory), and making your reservation well in advance. What animals can you find there? If you look closely you may see roe deer, foxes, wild boars and otters. What's more, in the skies above the Reserve you'll see golden eagles, kites, falcons and eagle owls. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? There are a range of footpaths to follow. There are also guided routes designed to show the traditional local trades or to identify butterflies. These tend to take place on weekends, and require prior reservation.
