Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve

Description

Take a deep breath and behold the 12 kilometres of sandbanks that make up the stunning Mundaka Estuary. It is surrounded by forests of holm oak. What's more, this Biosphere Reserve has everything from cliffs and beaches to marshes, forests and inland rivers. We recommend seeing these landscapes at different times of the day to fully appreciate the amazing effects of low and high tide. A place not to be missed? Cape Ogoño and Laga beach. What animals can you find there? In addition to the many birds that pass through the area, it is also home to the European mink, of which very few exist in the Basque Country. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? There are roads that allow you to explore the area in comfort. You can also try activities such as scuba diving, surfing, sailing, canoeing, sea kayaking and boat trips. The area also boasts the famous caves known as Las Cuevas de Santimamiñe (you can visit a replica) and the enchanted Oma forest, which combines nature and art.
