Dehesas de Sierra Morena Biosphere Reserve

If you're planning on visiting this area, you'll be interested to know that this is the largest space in the Spanish Biosphere Reserve Network. In fact, it comprises three nature reserves in northern Andalusia: Sierra de Hornachuelos (Cordoba), Sierra Norte (Seville) and Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche (Huelva). Although you'll find a wide variety of landscapes, the most emblematic is the traditional wooded pasture known as the 'dehesa', with grasslands dotted with holm oaks, gall oaks and cork trees. What animals can you find there? This area is home to species such as the Iberian lynx, wolves, black storks, otters, black vultures and the Iberian imperial eagle. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? In Aracena y Picos de Aroche you can visit the monumental site of Almonaster la Real and the Las Maravillas grotto. The Sierra Norte is an excellent place for hiking and cycle touring thanks to its Via Verde or 'green route', and the landscapes along the course of the Bemb├ęzar river in Hornachuelos are another must.
