La Mancha Húmeda Biosphere Reserve

You'll find this nature reserve with its thousands of hectares of wetlands in the heart of Castile-La Mancha. Equip yourself with some good binoculars before heading for two of the best-known areas in the reserve: the Tablas de Daimiel National Park, and the Lagunas de Ruidera Nature Reserve. The first has attractive wooden walkways laid out between reeds and bulrushes. In Ruidera, the landscape is formed by a series of natural pools along a stretch of 25 kilometres connected by waterfalls. What animals can you find there? Prepare to see grebes, ducks, herons and kestrels in Daimiel, and rabbits, turtle doves, partridges and foxes in the Mediterranean forest area. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? The best way to explore this area is by hiking along the signposted routes. It's also well worth visiting some of the towns and villages in the area such as Almagro, Valdepeñas, Villanueva de los Infantes and Alcázar de San Juan.
