Designated World Heritage in 2008

Located on the eastern slopes of Beobategaña Mountain, Altxerri Cave contains rock engravings and paintings from the period between 13,000 and 12,000 BC. The engravings are well conserved. The paintings, however, have deteriorated on account of the damp. This is why this cave is closed to the public.
