The Temple of Debod in the Parque del Oeste

Parque del Oeste park

Madrid

This area has a vast scenic network of winding, twisting avenues and paths. The Rosaleda garden was created and planted in 1956, in an area of gently rolling terrain known as La Llana, covering 18,000 square metres. It is in the classical style, and was an instant success from the moment of its creation, thanks to its annual international New Rose competition. Nearly 70 varieties which have yet to be commercialised are presented every year. Since 1991, the Spanish Rose Association has organised a ballot in which the most beautiful rose is democratically selected by the people of Madrid .
